Bird Sightings

Some bird sighting info. Quite a few satin bowebirds now feeding in the pine trees and a few echindas strolling across the road at nite. Saw a satin Bower pair this morning, lots of red tailed black cockatoos eating the cassurina nuts plus some unusual finches and honey eaters. the hot mornings at 6pm it was 18 c mean lots of good sitings. Lots of King Parrotts and wrens inteh forest. Whip birds are plntiful on the right just before you get into the rainforest about 1km past us. Lots of stingless native bees in the wattle, they look like flies but are just beautiful when they are working. note they work government hours, i.e they finish at 3.30pm !!

Road Conditions

Some track closures and track info Track repairs and closures in Green Mountains section, Lamington National Park As you are aware QPWS Rangers are currently undertaking walking track repairs throughout Lamington National Park in response to the severe storm damage that was incurred in January 2008. At present restoration works are focused on the Border track to Bithongabel and Elabana Falls area. Current track status and closures From Monday 21st until Friday 26th of September the Albert River circuit will be closed. The section of Border track between Toolona and the Border track junctions will be closed. While these track closures are in place visitors will still be able to complete the Border track via the Toolona Creek walking track. Helicopter lifts Helicopter lifts will be commencing Monday 21st of September and will extend until Friday 26th of September. These heli lifts will deliver the materials necessary to rebuild the track including rock, road base etc. We will keep you informed if this requires any further closures of the tracks. The first 10 kms are being resealed so the shoulders are very soft . From the bottom grid to the second grid there are plenty of brahmin cross steers who sleep on the road to keep warm. Be careful on the blind cornors at nite. the calves are being weaned so they will jump in any direction when they see vehicles. Be carefull of the Roo's they are mating so they jump everywhere. Lots of fires near the road, Our place was hazard reduced on the 22nd, so we are fine for a couple of years. There will be huge fires around this summer, its now to late to burn off as there is a total ban in place. Up past our place the road is recently resealed so there is plenty of loose gravel. No trees in the forest are down so its a clear run up to O'R's
